Vicki Belo donates skin care products to HPG officers

Now, only Belo touches the skin of Highway Patrol Group (HPG) officers on Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).

As they assist traffic under the sun and rain, traffic cops will now be protected with sunblock lotions and soaps after celebrity dermatologist Dr. Vicki Belo donated 170 packs of skin whitening products to the HPG on Monday.

This after the HPG director Chief Superintendent Arnold Gunnacao gave a wish list for the men and women of HPG deployed to the busy highway, which included sunblock, Vitamin C, and water jugs.

With daughter Cristalle Henares, Belo handed paper bags to some HPG officers, ten of whom are female cops, and taught them how to properly apply each skin care product in a simple ceremony at the HPG conference room in Camp Crame.

In a brief message, Gunnacao thanked Belo, Henares, and the Belo Medical Group for responding to the call of HPG for donation from the private sector.

“Lalo ho silang mai-inspire dahil habang nasa daan sila, protected sila ng Belo products. (We have to) always maintain the beauty of our men in the streets para mapangiti lahat ng dumadaan,” said a smiling Gunnacao.

(They will be inspired even more because while they’re out on the streets, they will be protected by Belo products. We have to always maintain the beauty of our men in the streets so that everyone who passes by will smile.)

Each paper bag contained an SPF 60 sunblock, which Belo said should be applied twice a day, as well as Kojic lotion to prevent hyperpigmentation of the skin. The products will also decrease the risk of skin aging and skin cancer.

Furthermore, the HPG officers will get a year-long supply of skin care products from Belo.

While giving a short message for the HPG, Belo noticed that the traffic officers all had flat stomachs.

“Obviously, everybody’s very conscious of how you look. Looks really matter. First impressions really count, so we see that you have the discipline to take care of your face and body. I think it’s a good impression for people to respect you more,” Belo said.

For reducing the usually hours-long travel time on Edsa, the celebrity doctor expressed gratitude to the HPG since she said perennial traffic jams in Metro Manila have affected her business.

“What’s happening with Belo Medical Group and all other establishments (is that) people choose not to go out of their house to avoid traffic, so I think it’s got a very bad impact to the economy; big thanks to you for easing up traffic, for our patient’s sake as well,” said Belo.

Gunnacao also encouraged companies and individuals from the private sector “to come in the open and extend their help to the HPG.”

“The HPG really needs help from the private sector. Do not hide if you want to donate or give something to the HPG,” he said.

During the ceremony, Belo’s daughter Cristalle thanked the HPG officers for successfully improving traffic flow on Edsa in just a week.

“On our way here from DasmariƱas Village in Makati City, (it took) 15 minutes and we’re here (in Camp Crame) already. Usually, it takes an hour and a half to get here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart… We’re so blessed to feel your presence on the road every single day,” Henares said.
